Lofoten is well connected with the mainland .If you arrive by air or the South of Norway Bodø is often where you leave the mainland. Bodø is the rail terminal, it has an airport and a stop for the Costal express "Hurtigruten" . You can go on to Lofoten by air or by car and ferry. There are 4 airports ; Røst , Svolvær , Leknes , and Værøy(only helicopters) with several departures daily. In addition the Narvik airport Evenes, with direct airplane routes from Oslo, is well connected to Lofoten after the new main road "Lofast" was opened in 2008. The road trip to Kvalnes is 213 km and takes about three hours drive in beautiful landscape. The coastal express, (Hurtigruten) calls at Stamsund and Svolvær daily from Bergen , Trondheim and Bodø (going north) , and from Kirkenes and Tromsø (going south). By car there are four routes with ferries leaving at short intervals; Bodø-Moskenes, Skutvik-Svolvær, Bognes - Lødingen and Melbu - Fiskebøl.
